I was invited by DTI Zamboanga del Sur to lead a product development session for the Pekpungunan Lebun Subanen Association of Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur. This esteemed organization, known for its intricate beaded works and accessories, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating their rich indigenous heritage through their craft. As part of the OTOP Philippines program in collaboration with DTI Zamboanga del Sur, my role was to provide mentorship in product design, development, and marketing to help elevate their traditional creations.
During the session, we focused on enhancing the design and functionality of their beaded products while maintaining the authenticity and cultural significance of their work. We explored new techniques and materials to innovate their designs, ensuring that they resonate with both local and international markets. Additionally, we developed tailored marketing strategies to effectively showcase their unique offerings and reach a broader audience. The goal was to not only improve product quality but also to create compelling narratives that highlight the cultural heritage embedded in each piece.
This session was a significant step toward ensuring that their traditional craft continues to thrive in a competitive market while preserving the essence of their cultural identity. It was inspiring to see how modern techniques and traditional craftsmanship could blend seamlessly to support and promote the vibrant heritage of the Subanen people.
