A Rewarding Experience on Selinog Island: Product Development with Local Weavers

After attending a beautiful wedding in Ozamiz City, I embarked on another journey to Selinog Island in Dapitan for a product development session organized by Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) as part of their community extension program. The trip was a delightful transition from the city to the serene beauty of the island. I spent three days immersed in the island’s tranquility, where each morning began with a hearty breakfast of fresh seafood, followed by engaging training sessions with the talented women weavers of Selinog Island.

The product development sessions were both enriching and inspiring. Working closely with the women weavers, I had the opportunity to share insights on product design and development, helping them enhance their weaving techniques and explore new market possibilities. The dedication and creativity of these women were truly remarkable, and their enthusiasm for learning made the experience both rewarding and memorable.

Beyond the productive sessions, I enjoyed my downtime exploring the pristine beaches of Selinog Island. The island’s immaculate beauty provided a perfect backdrop for relaxation, offering a refreshing escape after the day’s work. The warm and hospitable nature of the island’s residents made my stay even more enjoyable, highlighting the sense of community and connection that defines Selinog.

I am deeply grateful to the entire academic force of JRMSU - Main Campus for this opportunity to contribute to their community extension program. The chance to work with such inspiring individuals and experience the natural beauty of Selinog Island was truly fulfilling. I look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of the talented weavers and hope to return to this enchanting place in the future. #ProductDesign #ProductDevelopment #Mentorship #CommunityExtension #JoseRizalUniversity #SelinogIsland
