I had the privilege of conducting a product development session under the OTOP Philippines program in collaboration with DTI Zamboanga del Sur. This session was a critical part of the One Town, One Product (OTOP) assessment, aimed at developing and improving local products from the Kumala Weaving Center in Kumalarang and UnVas Paper Beads in Pagadian City. The focus was on providing tailored support to these local artisans, helping them enhance their offerings and create impactful marketing strategies.
During the session, we conducted a thorough consultative triage to evaluate and refine the products. For the Kumala Weaving Center, we explored ways to modernize traditional weaving techniques while preserving cultural authenticity, and developed strategies for improving product quality and market appeal. For UnVas Paper Beads, we discussed ways to innovate their designs and expand their reach by tapping into new markets. The aim was to not only assess the current state of their products but also to identify opportunities for growth and enhancement.
By the end of the session, both Kumala Weaving Center and UnVas Paper Beads had a clearer vision for their product development and marketing plans. It was inspiring to see local entrepreneurs committed to improving their craft and eager to apply the knowledge gained to elevate their businesses. This session was a significant step toward empowering local artisans and contributing to the vibrant economic landscape of Zamboanga del Sur.
